Something good is going to happen today

One day last week I was feeling under the weather. I was on antibiotics, I had an awful headache and the day was just absolutely gloomy -weather wise. However I woke up that morning, despite all of my feelings, with the attitude that something good is going to happen today.

The day carried on. And things seemed to get increasingly worse. Just small things. I went to the store where my Starbucks was knocked out of my hand. I came home from the store and stubbed my toe twice. I mean the hits went on and on. But I kept the same attitude that something good was going to happen.

Around 7 PM, I received a phone call from a lady I met at a craft fair during the holidays.

Here’s the backstory: She came to my booth during the fair and complemented me on my bags and explained that she ran a program that helped women in domestic violence shelters. The lady thought my bags would make excellent toiletry bags for the women and we exchanged information that day but nothing ever came of it.

When I came home from the craft fair, I sat around and looked at my left over inventory and decided then and there to give the lady a call. I told her that I was interested in giving her the last of my inventory for the ladies at the shelter. We met later that week and I gave her everything.

Fast forward to the present, she was calling me to let me know that she gave the bags to the women at the shelter that day. She said it was an overwhelming response and that everything that they needed fit perfectly in the bags. She went on to say that they were so overjoyed that they cried.

I could’ve cried on the phone but I kept my composure and thanked her. I realized right then that something good did happen that day and that my calling serves a greater purpose than I could imagine. Here I am, in the natural, having a “bad day,” but what I didn’t know was that something I created had positively impacted someone else’s life.

When I gave the bags to the lady my intention was not for a tax write off or for a like and share. In fact, I did not tell a single soul about my charitable act. I was simply moved by the Spirit to give away my bags.

I’m not sharing this story to be boastful or for clicks. That’s not my style. I’m sharing this story to tell you that your purpose is bigger than you. Sure we say that all the time, but it’s true.

As sewists and/or entrepreneurs we often forget how we can make a difference. It could be anything from making a blanket for someone in need to making a tutorial that inspires someone to launch their own business. It can also go broader than that. Sometimes, our gifts can make other people feel happy, worthy, beautiful and blessed.
