Did you know that you can make an office outfit from scraps? Yeah, me either!

Honestly, this outfit was by accident and the separates were not intended to be worn together, but the separates matched and I said “Eff it, let’s wear this together!”

I chose a very 1960s inspired silhouette. I made the ultimate trouser (only my third pair), and the Sorbetto top by Colette. IMG_7577IMG_7532

The ultimate trouser by “Sew Over It” is 4 piece pattern that is high waisted and ankle length. It just has that classic look that works in any season or decade, right?

The Sorbetto top is FREE and there are tons of variations. Pleats? Sleeves? A dress? You name it, it exists for this pattern. I chose the pleated version and cut 2 inches from the bottom to create a box-y shape top. The blouse is not lined, but I used bias tape to finish the arm holes and neckline.

The fabric I used for my top was a series of linen scraps. The front was from my custom design I made for a friend. The back is a lighter pink and was from my burnside bibs.

My pants… not technically a scrap, but more so fabric in my stash. My mom found about 2 yards of this fabric in storage and gave it to me. IMG_7562

My original intention of the pants was to use it as a wearable muslin for a pair of plaid pants that I was trying to make. I wanted to make sure that I would be able to match vertical and horizontal stripes. Although this is not a plaid, it is fabric with stripes and patterns going in lots of different directions.

What I love the most about both pieces is that this can be worn together or worn apart. I think a nice crisp white shirt will look perfect with the pants. Navy blue or even yellow pants will work with this top. The possibilities are endless! IMG_7561
