My new blazer! McCall’s M8155

Here it is! My first make of 2022 and it’s a blazer. If you know me, then you know I love a blazer. I’ve made a great amount of outerwear in my sewing travels -and more specifically I’ve made a few blazers. No blazer pattern is identical to the next one. This pattern follows that same rule.

So from the start, this pattern is a double breasted, lined blazer with a peplum bottom. There are other views, a short waisted one and a long dress version. Prior to sewing this one, I wondered if there was a way to wear this jacket open. In short, no. This jacket is meant to be worn closed.

This blazer pattern is unconventional in the sense that it does not have ANY pockets. And I thought about adding some in, but I wasn’t even sure were to add them in. The back piece is just one piece (typically there is a center back), and the sleeve pieces are one whole piece. With most outerwear and blazers the sleeve is usually two pieces (the under sleeve and upper sleeve).

All in all, this is a very easy blazer pattern and is definitely meant for an advanced beginner. Without welt pockets or traditional blazer pieces this is not as difficult as you would think.

Here is my jacket before adding in the lining.

Mimi G has a similar blazer pattern that I picked up a few months back. From what I can see, it’s the advanced version of this one. It has a breast pocket and 2 welt pockets along the peplum seam. And it seems like you can wear this one open. I still plan to make this pattern too since this is ultimately what I want in my closet as well.

Until next time! Xo!
