Hi sewing friends! I recently made Mimi G’s Simplicity pattern 9714! It’s a wrap blazer that’s really on trend for 2023.

This is new Spring pattern that comes with two views for shorts and pants. I didn’t make the pants that come with the pattern. Instead, I paired my blazer with the Pietra shorts that I had in my closet already…and simply bought the same fabric to make it a suit.

I cut a size 14 which was perfect for me. The pattern came together quickly. It has set in sleeves, patch pockets with a flap (faux welt?) over the pocket. The jacket is also unlined which helps as well for ventilation for Spring.

I hand sewed the bottom hem of the jacket and the sleeves. Y’all know that’s not my favorite, but it was necessary. The pattern directions call for a 1.25 inch seam allowance at the bottom hem. If I used my sewing machine to finish the hem then there would’ve been a stitch line over the pockets. That would not have been okay. If you don’t love hand stitching, perhaps fusible hem tape is a better option. Just a thought.

Let me know what you think of my new suit! Until next time! Xo.
