Happy Sunday! I have been super busy trying to make sure that I have all the outfits for my upcoming trip (more on that later) that I’ve been a bit M.I.A lately. Well, for my standards of content…. I have felt somewhat absent.

But can we talk about my lemon print dress and how much I love it? I’ve had this fabric for a while (I bought it back in June) and I sat on it for more then a month afraid to cut it into it and make the wrong thing. I know that sounds crazy, but fabric choices and silhouettes go hand in hand.

Anyway, I was inspired by Erica Bunker’s black tiered dress. She has a tutorial on how to create your own gathers and tiers here. I wanted something a little cheeky, with a super 90s, Laura Ashley feel…and so I took the bodice of a commercial pattern…cut the bodice just one inch below the notch on the front piece and back piece and then followed Lady E’s tutorial. She did something similar with another commercial pattern too! As it turns out you can probably use any bodice to achieve the same effect!

Granted, I only had 3 yards of this delicious fabric so I only used 2 tiers versus her recommended three. And since she’s much taller than me, I honestly didn’t miss the 3rd tier all that much. I made a few modifications. The math is all the same, except my first row is 9 inches and my second row is 10 inches.

Until next time, TTYL!

So cute Raven. I agree that being petite pays off when you’re short on fabric! Your dress came out beautifully!!
