Hey y’all! In case you haven’t noticed, it’s definitely Fall around here…but it wouldn’t be a Southern Fall season without the sun still beaming high and bright, right?
Which leads me to my next point…just how on earth am I wearing a sleeveless short dress in October? Welcome to South Carolina!
I used McCall pattern 7922 for my knot dress. And I must admit that I was initially intimidated by the knot, but after some careful reading and strong analytical views of the diagrams in the pattern I was able to pull this off!
As always when you have a directional print, you want to be intentional about the lines and how they appear on your dress. I was worried -but also not worried since my gingham was so small that I feel like a mistake might get overlooked. Correct me if I’m wrong folks, but this was not the first thing that your eye saw, right?
This dress is super flattering for all shapes, heights etc. The middle and bust areas are very forgiving and add/takeaway volume in all the right places.
Construction wise, this took no time! I finished the bodice in an hour before work…and the rest I took my time with because of other obligations. But truth be told, this can be done in a day. A word of advice to anyone who has this pattern though…serge all (and I mean ALL) raw edges of the bodice, bust and knot before sewing. The instructions do not explicitly say that…but you definitely want to take this measure.
Second piece of advice…coming from the girl who cuts now and marks later…your markings are super important if you want to make the knot the correct way. So, whatever you do…don’t skip this step, or even try to wait for “later” to mark your pieces. Do it now, while it’s fresh on your mind and less confusing. LOL.
