Happy New Year! This year has gone by so fast!

I have a quick tutorial on a New Years Eve dress. I know Omicron has changed they way some of us are celebrating this year, but if you’re at home with close friends or family this dress still makes enough of a statement to stand out.

So to start off…. I used the Everyday dress which is a free pattern from Peppermint Magazine. If I’m being perfectly honest, there is nothing fancy to this dress but I saw potential. It’s a high v-neck, very loose bodice, dolman sleeves and a belt.

I decided to drastically modify this dress so that it can be a slinky sequin party dress. So I went down a size or two so that it wouldn’t be so big on me, then I measured down my own chest so I would know where I wanted my neckline to stop. I measured 15 inches.

I retraced the top of the bodice with the new neckline. Then I redrafted the facing so that it would fit my new neckline. I did this by tracing the neckline on the bodice so that it would fit like a puzzle piece.

Next you’ll follow the directions on the dress pattern instructions to sew up your dress. It’s all so easy you can do it in a matter of hours. If you’re curious about how to sew with sequins, visit my blog post here.

Until next time!
